January was a month in which one issue tended to dominate – the stamp duty holiday deadline and the growing industry calls for a tapering and possible extension. Many CA firms are dealing with workloads far in advance of normal, and there has been a variety of industry statistics focusing on the number of potential transactions that might not complete before the end of March.
The CA has been working with a number of trade associations to present a united message on the potential for serious damage to the market and the wider economy if the Government do not review their current deadline, and much of the coverage throughout January (see below) is focused on this.
There was other positive news around Government measures on leasehold – a long-term campaign for the Association – as well as backing for UPRNs. In January we also welcomed a new affiliate member, Terrafirma, to the Association and there will be further news on new affiliates during February.
